Style Signals: Everywhere?
One of the reasons that I love to read Fashionista is because of the comments. A recent post deals with style signals, labels and clichés (read: fashion stereotypes). The use of stereotypes, even fun fashion ones, is dangerous. We can't all be painted with the same stroke or cast in the same light. All the same, some are hilarious, a few speak of some truth, but too many are sad.
See my visual interpretation below of the comments. If you want to read the harsher ones please feel free to visit.

Don't be so fabulous that you can't Xerox
Those are the words of fashion fiend, Andre Leon Tally. Both him and Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour have created their own ringtones both of which offer fashion tips and advice about breaking into the magazine business. T

The world changes, our stories live on
The National Film Board of Canada launched a new web site that features animations, shorts, documentaries, and experimental films. Here are some of of my favourites. Enjoy!

A Gap in their plans.
Gap and Pantone have teamed up to create a line of Pantone t shirts based on the colour for 2009: Mimosa (see previous post) and their spring predictions.
Creative? Orignal? Alas, no.
There is a gap in their plans. Basically, this has been done before by utilitarian-chic Uniqlo. Plus, they offered more colours, fabric choices and started at only $15. It can be seen here, here, here, here and here. T

Cast your vote for Diversity
Every year Montreal's ONETOP hosts a t-shirt graphics competition based on a theme. This year's theme is Cultural Diversity. Out of the 35 finalists only the top 20 will be printed. Here are some of my favourites.

Nylon interviewed the duo in their Insider section. The basic scoop, not really inside info, they are launching a CD and video documenting their North American tour.
Did you stock up on ‘80s gear while touring North America?
Yeah, we got most of the stuff in Canada...

Dressing the part
The word "snobbery" came into use for the first time in England during the 1820s. It was said to have derived from the habit of many Oxford and Cambridge colleges writing sine nobilitate (without nobility), or "s.n.o.b," next to the names of ordinary students on examination lists in order to distinguish them from their aristocratic peers.
- Status Anxiety (BOOK)
Funny, without status the complete opposite of today's meaning. S.N.O.B someone offended by the lack of high status in others.

Its about time
Net-a-Porter will open TheOutNet.com -- basically a Net-a-Porter outlet! Hopefully the sales will be better than the ones in the past. This is just perfect for the everyday fashionista, recessionista, frugalista and cheapista. It will be open for shopping in February but you can register now. Better yet, I'm making my wishlist on Net-a-Porter now and hoping for them to be on sale in the near future.
